Sound familiar?

Doing your own CIS because no one else knows your trade?

Most Devon tradespeople — builders, electricians, plumbers, landscapers — end up handling their own CIS submissions simply because finding an accountant who understands the scheme is harder than it should be. Monthly returns, subcontractor verification, deduction statements — each piece is manageable on its own. Together, on top of running an actual business, they add up. It is solvable — it just takes longer the more you leave it.

  • Monthly CIS returns going unfiled or filed late, risking HMRC penalties
  • No clear record of deductions withheld from subcontractors across the year
  • Uncertain whether subcontractors are verified correctly before payment is made

What sorted looks like

Monthly CIS returns filed on time without you chasing them. Subcontractor deduction statements produced as a matter of course. Verification handled correctly from the start so there are no compliance gaps sitting quietly in the background.

  • CIS returns filed monthly — no penalties, no chasing, no scramble
  • Deduction records kept current so year-end reconciliation is straightforward
  • Subcontractor verification done properly before the first payment goes out
  • One fixed monthly cost — no additional charge every time you have a question

What Devon tradespeople say about Swift

We work with contractors and subcontractors across Devon. Here are two clients who came to us in much the same situation you are probably in now.

★★★★★

Being a self employed stone mason sadly paper work is not my strong suit. And after a late cancellation from my normal accountant I had to find help. With late notice I contacted swift accounting and book keeping. Kieran was the person assigned to me to help with my tax return and at the start of Jan not much time to file my return before potential fines incurred. He went above an beyond to help good communication through emails an working even on a Saturday night to complete my return. I cannot thank him enough he made the process super easy an relaxed I will 100% be using them again in the future. Thank you.

What you get

What your monthly fee covers

Three things that keep your CIS obligations met, your books clean and your tax position visible — for one fixed monthly fee.

01

Monthly CIS Returns

Your Construction Industry Scheme return filed with HMRC every month, on time. Contractor and subcontractor records maintained correctly, deduction statements issued, and verification handled so there are no compliance gaps you are not aware of.

Included as standard
02

Bookkeeping and Reconciliations

Your records kept current every month on Xero, with income and deductions properly categorised. No year-end scramble, no weekend spent piecing together twelve months of bank statements before your accountant can start.

Clean books, every month
03

Self Assessment or Corporation Tax

Your annual tax return handled as part of the ongoing service — not bolted on as a separate bill. CIS deductions already suffered are offset correctly against your liability so you reclaim what you are owed.

No extras, no surprises

Why Swift

Why Devon tradespeople choose Swift

There is no shortage of accountants. Here is what is different about working with one who already knows how CIS works — and is based in Devon.

🏗️

No explaining how CIS works

Contractor obligations, subcontractor verification, gross payment status, deduction rates — you will not need to spend ten minutes explaining the scheme before getting a useful answer. We work with tradespeople every day. Ask a question, get an answer.

💬

Replies the same day

Questions get answered the day you ask them. Not logged, not queued, not passed to someone who needs to look into it — answered. If you want to know whether a tool purchase is deductible before you buy it, you will know before the end of the day.

🔒

One price, clearly agreed

Your monthly fee is fixed and does not move. No hourly billing, no extra charges every time you send an email, no invoice that arrives larger than expected. Your accounting costs are as predictable as your other fixed overheads.

Getting started

Up and running in four steps

Four steps from enquiry to your CIS obligations being handled. No complicated onboarding, no paperwork that takes a fortnight.

1

Send your enquiry

Fill in the form on this page. Kieran reads every enquiry and responds the same day with a clear next step. No automated holding messages, no waiting to hear back from a team.

2

A short discovery call

Twenty minutes to understand your setup — whether you are a contractor, subcontractor or both, what software you are using and what needs sorting. At the end of the call you will know exactly what is covered and what it costs.

3

We handle the setup

Your accounting software is connected, your records are brought up to date and CIS submissions are set up correctly from the start. You do not need to do anything except confirm you want to proceed.

4

Ongoing — nothing falls through

Monthly CIS returns filed, bookkeeping kept current, deduction statements issued as a matter of course. Your tax position becomes visible throughout the year rather than arriving as a surprise. Surprises are largely avoidable when the books are current.

Questions

Questions Devon tradespeople usually ask first

Yes — both sides of the scheme. If you engage subcontractors you need to verify them, deduct at the correct rate and file monthly returns with HMRC. If you are a subcontractor having deductions taken, those need to be reconciled against your tax liability at year-end so you reclaim what you are owed. We handle both.
Once your books are current and CIS deductions are properly recorded, your tax position becomes visible throughout the year rather than just at the end of it. Most clients have a reasonable idea of what they owe — or are owed back — three to four months before the deadline. Long enough to plan, not just react.
It is why most people come to us. Late submissions can carry penalties, and the longer they are left the more complex the catch-up becomes. We will tell you upfront what needs doing, what it will cost and what the exposure looks like — no drama, just a clear plan.
No. Month-to-month, cancel with a month’s notice. We would rather keep clients because the service is worth it than because leaving is inconvenient.
