Sole Trader Accounts Devon

Your sole trader accounts, sorted.

Most sole traders in Devon manage their own books until the self assessment deadline starts to feel uncomfortably close. Tracking income, finding receipts and working out what you actually owe takes longer than it should — and gets messier the longer it sits. Fixed monthly fee, ICAEW chartered, same-day replies.

  • Self assessment filed accurately and well before the January deadline
  • A running view of your tax position throughout the year, not just at the end
  • Allowable expenses reviewed properly — you pay only what you owe
  • VAT threshold monitored — no unexpected registration obligations

No long-term contract. If it is not working after three months, you leave with clean books and nothing owed.

Sound familiar?

Still not sure what your tax bill will be this year?

For most sole traders in Devon, the self assessment return arrives as a surprise — not because the numbers are complicated, but because the records were never kept in a way that made the answer obvious. Expenses go untracked. Income goes unreconciled. The deadline arrives before anything is ready. It is all solvable — it just takes longer the more you leave it.

  • Self assessment deadline arriving before the books are anywhere near ready
  • No clear view of tax owed until the return is actually filed
  • Allowable expenses missed throughout the year because nothing was tracked properly

What sorted looks like

Records kept current every month so the self assessment is not a last-minute scramble. A reasonable estimate of your tax bill visible well before January. Expenses reviewed properly so you are not paying more than you owe.

  • Books current every month — no year-end archaeology to get through
  • Tax liability visible throughout the year, not just when the deadline arrives
  • Allowable expenses identified and claimed — less paid to HMRC than necessary
  • A fixed monthly cost that does not move regardless of how many questions you ask

What sole traders in Devon say

We work with self-employed people across Devon and the UK. Here are two clients who came to us in much the same situation you are probably in now.

★★★★★

Being a self employed stone mason sadly paper work is not my strong suit. And after a late cancellation from my normal accountant I had to find help. With late notice I contacted swift accounting and book keeping. Kieran was the person assigned to me to help with my tax return and at the start of Jan not much time to file my return before potential fines incurred. He went above an beyond to help good communication through emails an working even on a Saturday night to complete my return. I cannot thank him enough he made the process super easy an relaxed I will 100% be using them again in the future. Thank you.

What you get

What your monthly fee covers

Three things that keep your records accurate, your tax position clear and your admin manageable — for one fixed monthly fee.

01

Self Assessment and Tax Return

Your personal tax return prepared accurately and filed on time, every year. Allowable expenses are reviewed properly — business costs, mileage, use of home, equipment — so you pay only what you genuinely owe. You will know the figure well before the January deadline.

Included as standard
02

Monthly Bookkeeping on Xero

Income and expenses recorded and reconciled every month so your records are never in disarray when the tax return comes around. Xero is set up and maintained for you — no spreadsheets, no folders of receipts left until December.

Clean records, every month
03

Tax Advice and VAT Monitoring

Your VAT threshold is monitored throughout the year so you are not surprised by a registration obligation you were not expecting. Proactive advice on allowable expenses, tax planning and any HMRC queries — handled before they become a problem.

Proactive, not reactive

Why Swift

Why sole traders in Devon choose Swift

There is no shortage of accountants. Here is what is different about working with one who already understands how self-employed businesses work.

📋

Already knows how sole traders operate

Mixed income, variable expenses, mileage claims, use of home, equipment purchased mid-year — you will not need to explain the basics before getting a useful answer. We work with sole traders and the self-employed every day. The questions you expect to be awkward usually are not.

💬

Questions answered the same day

Ask whether something is deductible, what you should set aside for tax, or how a new income stream affects your position — you will have an answer before the end of the day. Not queued, not passed along, not in a newsletter three weeks later.

🔒

One price, agreed upfront

Your monthly fee is fixed and does not move. No hourly billing, no invoice that arrives larger than expected, no extras for additional questions. Your accounting costs are as predictable as any other fixed overhead.

Getting started

Up and running in four steps

Four steps from enquiry to everything being handled. No complicated onboarding, no forms that need a lawyer to interpret.

1

Send your enquiry

Fill in the form on this page. Kieran reads every enquiry and responds the same day with a clear next step. No automated holding messages, no waiting a week for a callback.

2

A short discovery call

Around twenty minutes to understand your setup, what income you have, what records exist and what needs sorting. By the end of the call you will know exactly what is covered, what it costs and what happens next.

3

We handle the setup

Your accounting software is connected, any outstanding records are brought up to date and everything is configured on your behalf. You do not need to do anything except confirm you want to go ahead.

4

Ongoing — nothing falls through

Monthly bookkeeping, your annual self assessment, VAT threshold monitoring and any HMRC correspondence — handled as a matter of course. You will know your tax position well before January makes it urgent. Surprises are largely avoidable when the books are current.

Questions

Questions sole traders usually ask first

Not legally, no. But most sole traders who manage their own books either miss allowable expenses, mistime their tax payments or both. The cost of an accountant is typically offset by expenses claimed more thoroughly and a tax bill that does not arrive as a surprise. Whether it is worthwhile is a reasonable question — ask us and we will give you an honest answer.
Once your books are current, your tax liability becomes visible throughout the year rather than just at filing. Most clients have a reasonable estimate three to four months before the deadline — enough time to plan, not just react. We will also tell you what to set aside as you go.
It is the situation most people are in when they come to us. Getting up to date takes a little longer at the start and may cost slightly more — we will confirm that upfront so there are no surprises. Once current, keeping it current is straightforward.
No. Month-to-month, cancel with a month’s notice. We would rather keep clients because the service is worth it than because leaving is inconvenient.
